It was the longest way

November 24, 1980

It was the longest way we ever came we knew it all along where it would bring us what would be left we didn't mind we knew we had to make a trip of it the best of it the least we dealt in no superlatives we just kept coming it was a long way but we made the length of it with a bit of cheese along the way we took what we could and sometimes what we couldn't but we knew there was the river streamed under our tears we had to make a few tears of it vultures trailed us chuckling but we scoffed them off just crows loud barkers but we kept on nights gave us sometimes a gaping eye the start of a skull we knew better but we wouldn't own up we kept coming
