Carter inflation adviser plans early departure

Alfred E. Kahn, President Carter's chief inflation adviser, plans to leave the government soon after the election, no matter who wins, and rejoin the faculty of Cornell University. mr. Kahn has been saying publicly for several months that he wanted to return to private life and did not plan to stay in government beyond the administration's present term.More recently, he has been saying he would leave this month, shortly after the election. mr. Kahn has been adviser to the President on inflation, and chairman of the Council on Wage and Price Stability, since October 1978. Before that, he served 16 months as chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board, where he set in motion the dregulation of the airline industry.
