Autumn Sequence

Silenced the orchard. Grasshoppers pause on dry leaves. One last, spent pear drops. Finches torch pinoaks. Pine siskins flit, igniting the lane with tree-fire. Falling cone wakens porcupine sunning on grass, barbed quills bristling. Sullen skies, dripping. Pool in the red wheelbarrow mirrors blackened cloud.
