Many incumbents ousted by voters in Tanzania

October 29, 1980

Tanzania's voters have rejected one Cabinet minister and several members of Parliament, according to partial results of last Sunday's general election. With results received from 56 of the country's 111 constituencies, only 36.8 percent of incumbent members were holding their seats. Results of the presidential poll, in which voters could say "yes" or "no" to President Julius Nyerere, are expected Friday.
