Marcos says terrorism may extend martial law

October 28, 1980

President Ferdinand Marcos said recent terrorist activity made it necessary to reconsider plans to lift martial law in the Philippines by next March. Addressing an opening session of the interim National Assembly, the President said he would seek the advice of the National Security Council and other groups before coming to a decision about martial law. An explosion during a convention at which President Marcos was speaking was the latest in a string of bombings for which the government has blamed opposition leaders living in the United States.
