Some 50,000 people took part in a ban-the-bomb demonstration that organizers said was Britain's biggest nuclear disarmament rally in almost 20 years. One candidate candidate for leadership of the Labour Party, Michael Foot, said he would send back to the United States any cruise or Pershing missiles based in Britain.
