Three acquitted in Texas on FBI 'Brilab' charges

October 24, 1980

Texas House Speaker Bill Clayton and two co-defendants, found innocent of all "Brilab" charges, are the first acquittals in a series of nationwide FBI undercover "scam" cases against political corruption. A jury deliberated for 6 1/2 hours before coming up with a unanimous vote for acquittal on the first written ballot. Five more men face Brilab trials in Houston and New Orleans.
