Bomb alert halts trading 2nd day on Paris Bourse

October 24, 1980

Trading was canceled on the Paris Bourse (stock exchange) for the second consecutive day after a bomb alert. The building was cleared shortly before noon, after the third bomb alert of the week. On Monday a 12-pound explosive device, which police said could have killed dozens of people, was discovered near the trading floor and dismantled by bomb disposal experts. No bomb was found after the second alert Wednesday, but clerical workers refused to resume work, claiming security measures were inadequate.
