Clinging to the sweetness Of trust never doubted, I was a child too long, And suddenly the dream No longer fits the heart, And I was a stranger Searching new certainties. Now my son is leaving And I remember back To my mother's blank face When I too must be gone, And behind our grieving Stretching across the years, A continuity Sings, poignant and precious, In tender returning To the rivers of life.
