Changing wills when moving

My husband and I are relocating to Florida and have been advised to draw new wills. Is this necessary in order to avoid complications and additional expenses in the event of either of our deaths? --L. D.

Wills are legal documents drawn to guide and control the conveyance of one's property to heirs and others at death. Thus, any change that affects the provisions of a will requires a change in that will. Moving to another state usually means that a new will should be drawn to reflect that state's laws relative to property, inheritance or state estate taxes, and other statutes unique to each state. An existing will not modified or updated after moving to a new state will be of some help, but I recommend that every person have a will and that the will be updated to reflect any major change. Moving to another state is a major change.
