Gromyko off to Warsaw; first time since strikes

Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko has left for Warsaw on the first visit to the Polish capital by a Soviet leader since the outbreak of Poland's labor troubles. He is officially attending a two-day routine meeting of the Warsaw Pact foreign affairs leaders, but it will be his first opportunity to meet Poland's new leaders, appointed amid last summer's labor turmoil. In his meetings with Polish Foreign Minister Josef Czyrek, and possibly Polish leader Stanislaw Kania, he is expected to stress the Kremlin's hopes that the new leadership will avoid making concessions to Poland's rebel work force which could erode the authority of the Polish Communist Party.
