Pol Pot's delegation seated again by UN

October 15, 1980

The UN General Assembly confirmed Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge delegation as the legal UN representative of Cambodia for the second year in a row by a vote of 74 to 35, with 32 abstentions. Vietnam and the Soviet bloc had spearheaded a move to reject the credentials of the delegates appointed by the Khmer Rouge government, which was overthrown early in 1979 and replaced by Heng Samrin's administration, installed with the backing of the Vietnamese Army.
