Jamaican official killed in clash between factions

The assistant national-security minister, Roy McGann, was shot in a clash between rival political factions -- the first killing of a government official in Jamaica's history. It is not known if he was killed by an opponent or accidentally shot by police trying to halt a fight between political opponents. The shooting brings to 16 the number of people killed in politically related incidents in the past week and raised to 450 the fatalities in political violence since Prime Minister Michael Manley called for elections last February.
