Bill to mark historic sites for Dr. King nears signing

September 29, 1980

President Carter is expected to sign into law a bill establishing national historic sites in Georgia for the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The bill was given final congressional passage by the Senate Friday in a voice vote just before the session was adjourned and was sent to the White House. The legislation authorizes $4.6 million to preserve places where the late civil rights leader "was born, where he lived, worked, and worshiped, and where he is buried."
