Poland's Communist Party, under relentless pressure for political and economic reforms, promised to purge corrupt and dishonest officials from its ranks. The promise came in an editorial in the party newspaper Trybuna Ludu and followed a series of major internal debates at which, informed sources said, disgruntled Communists bitterly attacked privileges and financial perks given to party bureaucrats.
