Because of a misprint in a US Department of Energy report, an article in the Sept. 4 Monitor stated that gasoline use in the United States was up 4.9 percent for the first two-thirds of this year, compared with the same period in 1979. In an update of its report, the department said gasoline use for the period was actually down 6.8 percent.
