Salvadoran chiefs ship overhaul government

In a rare, urgent meeting with the three civilian members of the five-man civilian-military ruling junta, El Salvador's top military command has agreed not to restructure the US- backed government, but the fate of moderate member Adolfo Majano is unclear. The garrison commanders met with the civilians Friday over the "Order of Battle" -- the monthly list of military command changes. The September list effectively stripped backers of Colonel Majano of any real power.
