Ford plans fourth plant in Mexico

September 4, 1980

Ford Motor Company is laying plans to build its fourth production plant in Mexico. The proposed unit, whose location site has not been announced, will turn out 4-cylinder engines for Fords destined for North and Central America -- as well as for the domestic Mexican market. Officials say the facility, set to open by 1984, will open up 1,000 new Mexican jobs and also indirectly provide about 800 jobs on component work in the United States.
