Gold prospecting in Wales

September 3, 1980

The very newest gold find could be in one of the oldest unlikely places -- south central Wales. At least that's what a Cardiff University team, which is to begin drilling for Anglo-Canadian Exploration and other companies, is counting on. The work site of Ogofau produced known gold deposits as long ago as AD 60 for the Romans.

Present-day gold prices, according to mining experts in the UK, have made marginal possibilities out of abandoned or formerly worked mining regions such as this south central Wales area.
