My fourth of July

September 2, 1980

My grandmother, my mother, my father, and my sister went to the pool. Everyone shared the food they brought on long tables. There were cupcakes, ham, chicken, watermelon, and juice. There all kinds of games. The little kids caught gold fish in cups and carried cups across the pool. And one young girl climbed a greased pole to find a five-dollar bill on top. That night the whole family went downtown Charlotte to watch fireworks. They were very pretty. They looked the colored stars. They looked like showers of diamonds. This was fun.
