Another "hostage" of the US-Iran crisis has been Iran's oil industry If Iran could get its economy back to normal, it is capable of pumping about 7 million barrels of oil a day. Today -- torn by internal strife -- it produces a mere 1.7 million a fraction of pre-revolutionary output.

Further, Iran's exports have dipped from 5 million barrels a day to a mere 700,000 barrels now.

Several factors are responsible: labor problems, sabotage, a shortage of spare parts, technical malfunctions, and falling demand.m
