China probably won't get any classified US defense technology -- at least until after the November election. Ronald Reagan is one reason. US and Chinese defense officials continue to have a cordial dialogue over sales of weapons. But the Chinese have been turned down "again and again and again" on the highly classified electronic technology they want to buy, a source confides.

The Chinese attribute US reluctance to three factors: the November elections, the Taiwan problem, and Pentagon uncertainty over the stability of the Peking government.

Recent brouhaha over the Bush visit to China and Reagan statements on Taiwan have made sale of fancy weapons even less likely.m
