India's tiger population has risen to 3,015 from 2,278 two years ago, including 711 tigers in 11 reserves set up under a "project tiger" launched in 1972 to save the animal from extinction, when only 1,844 were found. The figures show that India also has 205 lions and 1,354 rhinoceroses.
