Iran demands that Soviets pull out of Afghanistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Sadeq Ghotbzadeh presented the Soviet Union Thursday with a list of demands ranging from withdrawal from Afghanistan to withdrawal of support from the Iranian Communist Party. The demands were contained in a lengthy letter to Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko, which also denounced Soviet policies toward Iran and compared them to those of the United States.

While "American imperialism" was insulting the Iranian revolution, the Soviet Union was playing down its Islamic nature, Mr. Ghotbzadeh said, adding: "Our nation cannot find much difference between your socialism and American capitalism."
