Data team to re-enter Three Mile Island plant

August 13, 1980

A four-member team will make the second manned entry into the contaminated Three Mile Island reactor building Friday to gather additional radiation data, plant officials said Tuesday. The team will remain in the Unit No. 2 reactor containment building for 40 minutes to measure radiation levels, take surface samples, and retrieve broken glass found during the first entry on July 23.

Metropolitan Edison, operator of the plant, says another small venting of radioactive krypton gas will be conducted Thursday in preparation for the entry. The venting is expected to release about 60 curies of krypton, well below federal limits.
