The US Drug Enforcement Administration, which helped smash the notorious "French connection" drug ring in the early 1970s, is drastically reducing its staff. Of the Paris office's 26 agents and secretaries, 19 are being called home by the Justice Department for economy reasons. Three American agents and a secretary will remain in Paris, with two agents and a secretary in Marseille.
