Illinois attorney general gets a one-year sentence

Attorney General William J. Scott, Illinois's top legal official for more than 11 years, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison Tuesday for federal income tax fraud after being found guilty in March of diverting campaign contributions to his personal use. Under terms of the 1970 Illinois constitution, his office is vacated upon formal entry of the sentence.
