Iran Radio says borders and airspace closed off

July 16, 1980

State Radio announced Tuesday night the immediate closing of Iran's airspace and borders, but a spokesman for President Abolhassan Bani- Sadr said the measure has not been decided yet.

Last week, President Bani-Sadr said a plot conspiracy was uncovered showing that some sections of the Air Force were planning to stage a coup d'etat. The radio said the prosecutor- general, acting on the advice of the headquarters for neutralizing the plot, ordered the closure of Iran's borders and airspace for one week, with "immediate effect."
