Fighting at shantytown on Thai border ends

July 14, 1980

Fighting that raged for three days around a Cambodian shantrytown on Thailand's eastern border appeared to be over, relief agency sources said Sunday. Fighting between rival anti- Phnom Penh guerrilla groups that left at least 30 people dead and more than 100 injured ended Saturday and did not start up again for the first time since the battles erupted last Thursday.

Officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN Children's Fund, and the World Food Program will meet in Bangkok today (July 14) for urgent discussions that could shape the course of aid to thousands of starving Cambodians.
