A&P to extend its carton stores

The old corner A&P is now all boxex. A&P plans to expand its new pick-it-up-from-an- open-carton stores to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and New York by year-end. The "Plus Stores" were first opened in August with basic-basic prices on food items. A&P, partly owned by West German interests, hopes the promotional push will revive company profits, which have been down since 1977, an official said.
