June 18, 1980

A federal grand jury Tuesday indicted reputed New Orleans Mafia chieftain Carlos Marcello and three other men on charges of conspiracy, racketeering, and fraud stemming from the FBI's undercover "Brilab" investigation.

The 12-count indictment, handed up in New Orleans, named Mr. Marcello; Washington consultant I. Irving Davidson; Charles Roemer, former commissioner of the Louisiana Division of Administration; and Vincent Marinello, a lawyer.

FBI sources have identified Mr. Marcello as one of the most powerful organized-crime leaders in the nation.
