Romania and Turkey push trade with Iran

June 9, 1980

Romania, one of Iran's largest oil customers, signed a trade agreement Sunday covering the export of a broad range of goods and services to Iran, the official Pars News Agency reported. The two countries will shortly discuss cooperation in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries; in exploration for oil and minerals; and in cement production, Pars said. The agreement is the most extensive of its kind concluded since Western countries began to impose sanctions against Iran over the US hostage issue, economic analysts reported.

Meanwhile, Turkey has agreed to increase the amount of oil it buys from Iran to 60,000 barrels a day, compared with 40,000 barrels previously.
