Reagan isn't ready to move into the White House, but he wants to be close all the same. He's moving both his residence and his campaign headquarters from Los Angeles to the Washington suburbs.

The move will shift the campaign into the center of the political arena -- nearer congressional advisers and the national press -- and make campaigning in the Northeast and the Midwest more convenient. It will also combat any sense of provincialism associated with the campaign, aides say.
