Door at Three Mile Island poses venting question

May 22, 1980

A jammed door that stopped two technicians from entering the Three Mile Island plant poses not threat to the stability of the crippled nuclear reactor, a top Metropolitan Edison Company official said Wednesday.

However, Robert C. Arnold. vice-president in charge of the facility, said the possible corrosion of the containment building door was a signal that the structure's ventilation system could fail and threaten more release of radiation.
