World Airways slashing its transatlantic fares

May 20, 1980

World Airways, which slashed the price of a no-restrictions flight across the United States, is about to do the same thing across the Atlantic, linking Boston's Logan Airport with Gatwick Airport in London, Monitor writer Peter Tonge reports. Beginning June 19, the company will offer unrestricted one-way economy fares of $299.99 during the peak season and $249.99 during the off season -- more than a 30 percent reduction on the present fares of competing airlines. World's year-round first class fare will be $650 one way, some $400 under the competition.
