Lance, 3 co-defendants await bank-case verdict

Jury deliberations in the bank fraud trial of former Budget Director Bert Lance were in their fourth day Thursday. The panel, which spent more than three months hearing the case, must return 26 unanimous verdicts on 19 charges involving Mr. Lance and his three co-defendants, Richard Carr, Thomas Mitchell, and H. Jackson Mullins. Mr. Lance faces a maximum of 54 years in prison and a fine of $60,000 if convicted on all 12 counts against him, including 10 charges of misapplication of bank funds and two charges of lying on financial statements.
