Tire company cuts back as auto sales slump

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, the nation's largest tiremaker, Thursday announced production cutbacks at seven plants, including the layoffs of 750 employees at its Topeka, Kan., plant and 200 workers at its Lawton, Okla., facility. The layoffs, now up to 4,700, are caused by the slump in the auto industr.
