Revolt in Israeli coalition stalls step on settlements

April 24, 1980

A ministerial revolt in Israel's coalition government forced Prime Minister Menachem Begin to postpone a special Cabinet meeting Wednesday on a proposal to alter the legal status of Jewish settlements in the occupied Arab territories, political sources said. All three ministers representing the Democratic Front, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Yigael Yadin, and two of the four Liberal Party ministers threatened to walk out of the Cabinet session if it were held, the sources told Reuters.
