Norwegians and Egyptians to skip Moscow Olympics

April 21, 1980

The Norwegian Sports Federation over the weekend voted in favor of a boycott of the summer Olympic Games to be held in Moscow. The decision makes Norway the first West European country to announce support for the US call for a boycott to protest Soviet military intervention in Afghanistan.

The Egyptian Olympic Committee has also voted to boycott the games. Sports organizations in Egypt issued a statement last week urging a total boycott of the games, covering referees, administrators, and technicians.
