A summer trip to Japan

April 21, 1980

After summer living in Japan, selected US high schoolers will meet each fall for the next three years in special weekend seminars as an inducement to continue their study of Japanese life.

Youth for Understanding (3501 Newark Street, Washington, DC 20016) is operating a summer program in Japan for 275 US secondary school students which offers partial scholarships to nearly half the participants.

The American students spend a summer living in a Japanese home, taking part in both home and community activities.

Before leaving the United States, all 275 students receive an intensive orientation, alerting them to the culture and traditions of Japan, so important to their acculturation when they arrive.
