Three banks ratchet up the prime rate to 20%

Chemical Bank of New York Wednesday raised its prime lending rate, the rate it charges its most creditworthy corporate customers, to 20 percent, from 19 1/2 percent. Continental Illinois National Bank & Trust Company and First National Bank of Chicago followed the move.
