Mystery cash reported in a house ethics inquiry

April 1, 1980

An ethics committee investigator said Monday he found about $200,000 in cash in House accounts of Rep. Charles H. Wilson (D) of California that apparently was not supported by any income. Marvin Levy, an investigator for the General Services Administration, was the opening witness of a hearing on charges that Representative Wilson padded his payroll, converted campaign funds to his personal account, and accepted gifts to influence legislation.

Mr. Wilson, now serving his ninth House term, has denied all the charges and said he expects to be elected to a 10th term this year.
