Harvard religious group opposes peacetime draft

March 31, 1980

The United Ministry at Harvard-Radcliffe, a religious organizations under the Board of Ministry at Harvard University, released a statement Sunday to the White House and members of Congress declaring its opposition to President Carter's request for a peacetime registration for the draft. The statement encourages those in the Harvard community "to assert forcefully their earnest desire for peace, and to urge their Senators and Representatives not to appropriate funds enabling registration for the draft." Dr. Morris Trevithick, a member of the United Ministry, said viewpoints on the draft from the religious community must be asserted before it's too late.
