Shah's doctor says he's able to lead normal life

March 31, 1980

The Shah's chief physician, Dr. Michael DeBakey, said that after the former monarch's successful operation last Friday he "should be able to lead a perfectly normal life."

Dr. DeBakey said the Shah should be able to leave the hospital in about 10 days, according to Monitor contributor Nathaniel Harrison. But where the Shah will go afterward is still not certain. His spokesman, Robert Armao, has said the Shah and his immediate family have not purchased property in Egypt nor has any been readied for them.

But President Sadat has hinted that the Shah has accepted his offer of permanent political asylum.
