Strauss says Kennedy on 'both sides of issues'

March 28, 1980

The President's campaign manager, Robert Strauss, called Sen. Edward M. Kennedy a "political opportunist" while discussing politics with a group of reporters over lunch Thursday, reports Monitor correspondent Godfrey Sperling Jr. "He's guilty of being on both sides on a number of issues," Mr. Strauss said.

Providing an explanation for Carter losses in the New York and Connecticut primaries he said: "It was a confluence of a number of negatives hitting us all at once."
