Two nuclear power plants that shut down Sunday were restarted Monday and are expected to be back on line by afternoon. Officials said neither shutdown caused a release of radiation.

The Millstone II nuclear plant in Waterford, Conn., which shut down Sunday for the fifth time in five weeks, was restored to 50 percent of its full power in the morning, Northeast Utilities said. And in Southport, N.C., Carolina Power & Light Company restarted Unit No. 1 at its Brunswick nuclear plant Monday.
