Reagan sweeps Missouri caucuses

March 24, 1980

Ronald Reagan swept the first group of county caucuses held by Missouri Republicans Saturday to begin selecting delegates to the Republican National Convention. Reagan supporters claimed unanimous support from at least seven of the 20 counties holding caucuses. The former California governor picked up 88 of a possible 97 delegates from St. Louis, where he had been expected to receive a challenge from George Bush and Rep. John Anderson of Illinois.

The second largest block of delegates selected Saturday -- 63 in Greene County -- went unanimously for Mr. Reagan, as did delegates slates in six other counties.
