African nations asked to help end Chad civil war

The Chadian civil service and labor minister, Brahim Mady Gustave, appealed to the Organization of African Unity Sunday to try to end the country's 13 -year-old civil war following renewed fighting there this weekend. Heavy fighting was reported in Chad's capital, N'Djamena, between forces loyal to President Goukouni Queddei and supporters of Defense Minister Hissene Habre.

Eleven Chadian faction's agreed on a cease-fire at a meeting in Lagos, Nigeria, last August and set up a provisional government four months ago to reunite the country.
