Pakistan seizes ex-general in coup d'etat attempt

A retired general named by some sources as the leader of an unsuccessful coup attempt last week against President Muhammad Zia ul- Haq has been arrested, the official Pakistan news agency said Thursday. The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted "informed sources" as saying retired Maj. Gen. Tajmal Hussain Malik was arrested for "activities . . . which attract the mischief of law." It said he was likely to face trial.
