CAB gives airlines option to increase foreign fares

March 13, 1980

The Civil Aeronautics Board has approved another round of international air fare increases ranging from 6.1 percent to 9 percent, effective April 1. It was the second set of foreign fare authorizations this year under a new system for analyzing international airfare increase proposals from the airlines. The board approved another set of increases Jan. 29.

The board also continued its policy of giving airlines on North Atlantic routes discretion to raise fares 5 percent above the foreign-fare ceiling to account for the fact that board's method of determining inflation appears to understate future cost increases.
